Frequently asked questions
Is this an ABA approved course?
It is not, but before you go, you don’t need to complete an ABA approved course to be hired as a paralegal. Technically, you could become a paralegal right now. All you need to become a paralegal is for a company to hire you. What employers look for in a candidate is someone who knows the law, terminology, and how to be an effective paralegal. Our course teaches you all three. The fact of the matter is, you do not need to be certified to start your paralegal career. You just need a strong knowledge base. You can find more information about paralegal regulation here.
Can you certify students?
We can provide you with a certificate of completion to use in a resumé. We do not provide the Certification Paralegal (CP) exam, but our course will fully prepare you for the CP exam through the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA). In fact you often need a few years of experience in the field to even take the exam, unless you want to pay a premium price for an ABA approved course. Our course provides you the knowledge that will land you a job now so that you can be certified later on (without the exorbitant costs)!
How do I know if it works for me?
We will happily send you a mini course that showcases the first few chapters. There you can see what it’s like, how the chapter quizzes work, etc. Therefore you can determine for yourself if it’s the right course for you. Please email us at info@paralegal-training.com, or through our contact us page, to receive the mini course.
How does the course work?
Once you have purchased the course, you will be sent a welcome letter and all the course materials via email. In that email are instructions on how to go about your studies. It is really that straightforward. You just open the first book and go. You study at your own pace and self-grade all quizzes. The course is brilliantly written to have you learning even when you don’t know that you are. We maintain a student record and you report your self-assessment scores to us. This establishes a record should the need arise for us to report your scores to the administrators of an official exam. California is the only state that has specific minimum requirements to work as a paralegal.
Why should I pay for a course that isn’t ABA approved?
To be an ABA approved course, it has to be a part of a company or institution with a brick and mortar building. What we are all about is providing you the same material the schools teach, without all the extra costs of a physical location. This way, we can keep the price low, so you can get your foot in the door without breaking the bank. The most important consideration here is that our students have never been barred from getting positions in all kinds of firms, and not just law firms. An intimate understanding of law is needed by all kinds of commercial and government concerns. The bottom line is the vast majority of prospective employers don’t acknowledge the need of ABA Certification.
How long to complete this course?
If you were to dedicate 1-2 hours a day, averaging 8-10 hours a week, you would be finished in 8 to 12 weeks.
